Hospitable Hosts book is out now!! This epic is a “must read” for anybody in the short term rental biz….A book of inspiring and memorable stories from Airbnb Hosts around the world to educate and motivate!
And, I am a contributing author!! For me, I’ve put it all down on paper – laid my story bare for everybody to read. You’ll laugh , you’ll cry , you’ll dance! . Back in February I wrote this post talking about my experiences as a writer and mentioned this book an now it is here- I am just so happy to be included with a group of absolutely amazing hosts.
For every host, there is a story and this book contains over 40 of them – all from amazing hospitable hosts. It is a real privilege and honor to be between the same covers as these incredible hosts! Reading this book will show you how there is no one right way to be a host and run a successful business. You can really choose your own adventure.
Thank you to Jodie Stirling for the grace you’ve shown during this task of wrangling all the authors with such precision and care to make the Hospitable Hosts book a reality. We are all working hosts and not full time writers so it must be a bit like herding cats – juggling time zones, procrastination and busy guest checkins! I am so honored though to be apart of this.
You can see the list of contributing authors here as well as purchase your copy of this amazing book!
What is was like to write my chapter
I spend much of my week writing. Writing this blog, newsletter emails, social media posts, client emails, reports. This is the first time I have written a chapter for a collective book. It was super interesting to go through my stories and choose one that would be timely and hopefully interesting. But also one that held its own with the other amazing authors.
Giving a voice to other Japanese Hosts
There are so many other hosts in Japan who’s stories are very similar to mine. The pandemic hit us hard and hit us early. Especially with the Olympics planned for 2020. The borders still are not open nearly 2.5 years later. I really wanted to represent their stories as much as my own.
No pressure – really.. Ok there was a bit of pressure.
But the authors group has been so inclusive, so supportive and really welcoming. As I am based in Japan, I recognise that I am an odd bird in the English speaking STR world. I am grateful to all of my co-authors for such a warm welcome.
What is in the Tracey Northcott chapter?
For that you will have to buy the book.. but here is a short excerpt to get you interested..
In 2015, I made a 5 year plan for my STR business, and four years into it, everything was going great. I had all my ducks in a row, I went to sleep every night with that warm glow of a small business owner who was ready for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I felt like I was in the right place, at the right time with the right product. I was projected a 7 figure profit – 7 figures! Then it all went right down the crapper in under a month. So much for planning.
Why I am never writing a 5 year plan ever again: How I learned to pivot like a ballet dancer. Tracey Northcott Hospitable Hosts Published 2022
